2nd Poverty and Social Protection Conference (PSPC2008)

19th-21st of June 2008, Bangkok, Thailand
Venue: First Hotel

The 2nd Poverty and Social Protection Conference (PSPC2008), held from 19–21 June 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand at the First Hotel, built on the foundations of the inaugural edition and expanded the global dialogue on poverty, inequality and social protection.

This edition brought together a wider mix of participants — academics, practitioners, community leaders and policymakers — all committed to exploring how social protection mechanisms can respond to the evolving challenges of poverty in the 21st century. As the second instalment of the series, PSPC2008 further cemented the vision of the conference: to offer a collaborative, multidisciplinary platform for meaningful exchange and actionable insights.

The key themes of PSPC2008 included:

  • Advancing social protection frameworks in a changing global environment
  • Bridging research, policy and practice in poverty alleviation
  • Emphasizing inclusive development and the voices of vulnerable groups
  • Creating stronger global networks of practitioners and scholars

PSPC2008 carried forward the inclusive, cross-sectoral, and solution-oriented ethos of the series and helped lay the groundwork for subsequent editions.
