5th Poverty and Social Protection Conference (PSPC2012)

5TH POVERTY AND SOCIAL PROTECTION CONFERENCE [PSPC2012]
8th-10th of March 2012, Bangkok, Thailand
Venue: Royal Benja Hotel

The 5th Poverty and Social Protection Conference (PSPC2012), held from 9–11 March 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand at the Royal Benja Hotel, marked an important stage in the development of the PSPC series. By this fifth edition, the conference had grown into a well-recognized international forum that brought together participants from a broad range of disciplines and sectors, all united by a shared commitment to advancing poverty reduction and strengthening social protection systems.

PSPC2012 reflected a period of increasing global attention on the interconnectedness of economic insecurity, social inequality, and human development. The conference provided a platform for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and community representatives to examine new approaches, compare country experiences, and discuss innovations that could support inclusive and equitable development.

Key focus areas of PSPC2012 included:

  • Strengthening social protection frameworks in diverse political and economic contexts
  • Addressing vulnerabilities through targeted policy interventions
  • Bridging academic research with evidence-based policymaking
  • Highlighting grassroots initiatives and community-level responses
  • Examining multidimensional poverty and participatory development approaches

As with previous editions, PSPC2012 maintained a collaborative and approachable environment, encouraging meaningful dialogue between participants regardless of their professional background or organizational affiliation.
